Hi everyone! So I think it's no secret that the music industry as a whole isn't in a great spot at the moment. I can't speak for every part of the world but at least in Canada and the USA we've seen a record number of industry related collapses over the past 5-10 years: closing local music venues in cities across the country and mergers of huge companies like LiveNation and Ticketmaster for example. The COVID pandemic further drove the nails into the coffin with the music Mind For Music has always focused on: Jazz, Classical and other more 'niche' forms of music seemingly having been hit the hardest (although Rock & Roll isn't in a terribly great place at the moment either).

The goal of this website was always to foster a healthy community of like-minded musicians, composers and arrangers to help teach the world more about the importance and beauty of music. With all of these developing problems in the global music industry I think it's crucial to take a more active role in the fight, confronting the problems head on when possible or at the very least raising awareness when that is not possible.

With this in mind Mind For Music will be taking a more active role in both this community and others, starting first with the YouTube Channel that has been somewhat neglected over the past few years. Here are a few changes you can expect specifically on the YouTube channel right away:

1.) Most of the current practice videos are going to be de-listed and re-uploaded in higher quality and with corrected charts (where applicable). A lot of these were made years ago and while functional unfortunately don't hold up to modern expectations in terms of quality and consistency. Plus there are some questionable chords here and there that really should be updated.

For the time being the old versions will remain on the channel but unlisted in case anyone is still using them for practice. A list of those unlisted older videos with links can be found here (along with updates on when newer ones are uploaded):

2.) I'm going to start featuring some more informational videos about issues in the music industry, along with some about history and even lesson videos as well. With Finale reaching it's end of life and the new AI landscape there is a lot to say about the future of music composition and this will hopefully all be addressed here in time.

3.) I would love to feature some videos from the Mind For Music community as well, this could be anything from a video of playing a transcribed solo to a live performance of an original composition or arrangement. I'm looking for more ideas/suggestions so please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks so much and lets get back to the music!

-Steve
